It’s a sensitive topic, however most of us are unaware that much of our health issues may be related to intestinal worms. There’s nothing worse than staying up all night holding a feverish child in front of the toilet, hoping for all the phlegm and gunk to finally end. My son has an intolerance to refined sugar, artificial sweeteners and whatever else is in those yummy donuts that we all can’t resist! Thus I’ve had my fair share of sleepless nights over the years, and no amount of Flemeeze and other OTC or prescription meds did much to help. Combination Homeopathic remedies that I usually swear by were also ineffective against his severe mucous build-up. My troubles came to an abrupt and very welcome end when I discovered this 3-ingredient cough syrup recipe that, if given at the first signs of a cough, works after just a single dose – Happy Days!
It takes me 3 minutes to get these ingredients out, make the syrup and pack away again, it’s really that simple! Continue reading

When we learn about the harmful ingredients in Colas, most fruit juices and ice teas, it’s easy to lose heart and feel that it’s impossible to beat the system. I used to buy bulk cases of Ceres and Liqui-fruit juices, Milo, and even ice teas for my kids, until I read more on the actual ingredients contained in these products. I was devastated – my kids lived on these beverages and here I was packing it for their lunches thinking they were the healthier alternative! Then I by chance came across the word Kombucha, read about it, and although I was sold on the benefits, it seemed too complicated for me to tackle. Then one day it was just given to me, and I had no choice but to make my own. My initial fear turned into supreme confidence after that first try, and it was a hit with my kids so there I was, changed for life! I have now replaced their non-nutritional beverages with one that at worst, does less harm than the conventional ones, and at best, will promote and maintain optimal health and vitality!
For me the ultimate benefit of drinking Kombucha is the health it promotes in the digestive system, which in turn affects our mental, physical and emotional health, hence our overall health and vitality. Why is it so important to nourish our gut bacteria ? The digestive system is the core of our immune system. An unhealthy digestive tract shows up as allergies, food sensitivities, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, inability to absorb nutrients from our foods, lethargy, mood disorders, emotional predispositions, nervousness, anxiety etc. etc. etc. These ailments indicate that the level of good bacteria and enzymes in our gut is simply too low to adequately digest our food. One quick, easy and tasty way to replenish them, in addition to cashing in on a whole lot of other health benefits, is by drinking Kombucha!
To really harness the power of this wonder drink, you should be consuming it regularly, however the cost of buying will soon put you off making this a daily go-to-beverage. Hence I have compiled these step-by-step instructions to take you from zero to hero in your very first batch! Continue reading
Ever had that sinking feeling that you were coming down with something, and you just couldn’t afford to be sick? Even worse, you’re child is the one under the weather and you really have nobody to take care of your little one while you’re at work ?
A chaotic trip to the doctor, a packet full of medication and an empty wallet later, you’ve done all that you can to avert a disaster. This is the routine most people follow, especially throughout the winter and hay-fever months. But what if I told you that none of this is necessary because there’s a much easier and far more convenient way to handle the situation ? One that doesn’t involve medication and their side-effects, that is super cheap and safe for the entire family ?
So there you are minding your own business, doing your thing, when along comes some nasty comment, or unsavory dig at you. Maybe you get all volcanic, and you erupt – It feels great! Maybe you don’t – but then it festers because it really does bother you. So now what ? One part of you wants to fling a hammer at the person, yet another part absorbs the insult and feels awful.
The volcanic reaction makes you feel good for that moment. You’re in power, you’ve stood your ground and shown them what you’re made of. However how does this make you feel afterwards ? Then consider the Turn-The-Other-Cheek approach where you let things be, but then it haunts you and you find yourself second-guessing everything about yourself. Is this healthy for you ? The fun is in the journey, that’s where the magic happens!
So remember to stop and smell the roses while you’re dashing around, doing all the things you need to get done.
I’m loving the journey – don’t know where I’m going but boy oh boy what a ride!
You may have heard the parable about the frog and the boiling water – They say that if you put a frog into a pot of boiling water, it will leap out straight away to escape the danger.
However, if you put the frog into a pot that is filled with cool, pleasant water, and then gradually heat the pot until the water begins to boil, then the frog will not even be aware of the danger until it’s too late!
This is what happens to each and every one of us in life, especially with regards to our health. We start off on top of the world, and gradually experience a deterioration that we don’t notice until, like the frog, it’s just too late… Continue reading
